Updated this week

We're pleased to announce Lokalise’s updated price plans is now fully live! The new plans come with clearer limits, simplified billing based on processed words (not the number of keys or seats), and more flexibility to match your team's needs.

What's changing: Plans overview

We are updating our price plans to make it easier to choose the right plan for your needs. The new structure is simpler, with clear limits and more predictable pricing as your team grows.

Previously, our plans were: Free, Start, Essential, Pro, and Enterprise. These plans included a mix of features, limits on all team seats, and hosted key restrictions.

Our new price plans are:

  • Free

  • Explorer

  • Growth

  • Advanced

  • Enterprise

What's changing across all plans

Here's a quick overview of key changes in the new price plans:

  • Billing is based on processed words, not stored keys.
Lokalise remains a key-based platform, but usage is measured by the number of words processed during translation activities. Learn more about processed words.

  • AI/MT translation is now available in two tiers: Standard and Pro AI.
Standard includes providers like Google and DeepL for general translation needs. Pro AI offers access to large language models, advanced automation, context handling, and quality scoring. Learn more about Standard AI/MT and Pro AI

  • All plans include unlimited translation keys.
You can store as much content as you need — there are no limits on key count. However, billing is now based on processed words, not the number of keys.

  • All paid plans include unlimited hosted words.
That means no limits on base language content stored on the platform.

  • All plans include unlimited basic seats, which can be used for translators and reviewers.
Only advanced seats (used by managers, developers, etc.) count toward seat limits. Learn more about basic vs advanced seats

  • API usage is capped at 6 requests per second across all plans.

  • Over-the-air (OTA) requests are unlimited on paid plans, but data transfer is subject to limits based on your plan. You can increase your quota if needed.

What are processed words?

Find detailed information in the Processed words article.

Overview

Processed words refers to translation-related operations performed within the Lokalise platform. It represents the number of words actively processed by a customer for translation tasks. The calculation is based on all words contained within keys involved in each translation update, including both base and target languages.

Lokalise is still a key-based platform for content management. But with the new price plans, billing is based on processed words, not stored keys. Key storage is now unlimited — expressed as unlimited hosted words.

When words are processed

Words are counted as processed in these cases:

Base content

  • Initial import of base language content

  • Updates to base content (via UI, API, import, or integration)

Target content

  • First-time translation of a key (regardless of input method: UI, import, MT, AI, etc.)

  • Re-translation triggered by:

    • A change in the base language

    • Use of AI/MT (via workflows, tasks, automations, inline suggestions, or translate buttons)

    • API or import operations

  • Translation memory (TM) suggestion below 100% match is accepted

  • Translation is generated or modified inside a branch

When words are not processed

Words are not counted in these cases:

  • Manual edits to target content without changes to the base language

  • TM suggestions with 100% match

  • Re-imports of the same content with no actual changes

  • Restoring content via translation history or snapshots

  • Merging or creating branches

  • Updating metadata or key attributes

  • Copying or moving keys between projects

  • Linking keys via the duplicate finder

  • Clearing translations or using pseudotranslation for visual checks (clearing = not counted, pseudolocalization = counted)

What are basic and advanced seats?

With the new price plans, seats are divided into two types to better match different user roles:

Basic seats

Seats allocated to translators and reviewers. These are intended for users focused on translation work only with the following basic permissions:

  • View translations: They can see translations for the languages marked as readable.

  • Review translations: They can change the "review" translation statuses.

  • Modify translations: They can edit translations for the languages marked as editable. However, if they don’t have the "Contribute to master branch" permission, they can only make changes in non-master branches.

  • View project information: They’ll be able to see basic project details like base words, completion percentage, and total number of keys.

  • Manage comments: They can read, create, and delete their own comments.

  • Browse glossary: They can view glossary entries.

  • Generate API tokens: They can create personal API tokens.

Advanced seats

Seats for users who perform tasks beyond translation, including:

  • Managers

  • Content creators

  • Developers

  • Other customizable roles

What is Standard AI/MT and Pro AI?

Find more information in the What is Standard AI/MT and Pro AI? article.

The new price plans introduces two levels of AI and machine translation (MT) to better support different types of content, quality expectations, and workflow needs.

All AI usage in Lokalise is billed based on processed words; that means you're charged only when words are actively translated by an AI engine.

Standard AI/MT

Standard AI/MT includes foundational machine translation systems:

  • Google Translate

  • DeepL

  • A base version of ChatGPT (no context-awareness or scoring)

This option is intended for speed and scale, where content is lower risk and high precision isn't critical.

Key characteristics:

  • You manually select the engine per project

  • No contextual awareness — translations don’t consider localization assets, images, or key metadata

  • No quality scoring or automated fallback

  • "Good enough by default" — outputs meet general standards but may lack tone, brand consistency, or nuance

Pro AI

Pro AI is Lokalise's premium AI solution. It builds on Standard AI by adding advanced capabilities for teams that care about quality, automation, and brand fidelity.

Pro AI includes:

  • Access to multiple large language models: ChatGPT, Claude, etc.

  • Automated routing: Lokalise selects the best engine based on content type and language pair

  • Context awareness: AI can reference images, descriptions, and localization assets to improve translation accuracy and tone

  • AI-powered scoring: Translations are automatically evaluated and scored from 0 to 100 using Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM)

  • Retranslation triggers: Segments scoring below quality thresholds can be flagged for human review or automatic retranslation

  • Human-in-the-loop workflows: Optional step for high-risk or customer-facing content needing review before publishing

  • Personalized AI models (available on higher-tier plans): trained on your own content for improved consistency over time

How will free trials work?

You can still explore Lokalise with a free trial. The free trial lasts for 14 days and gives you access to all Enterprise plan features, so you can test advanced functionality such as AI, workflows, integrations, and more. However, usage during the trial is limited to the same operational limits as the Explorer plan.

Once your free trial ends, your account will automatically switch to the Free plan. You can upgrade to any paid plan whenever you're ready.
