Lokalise Vantage: Content automations

Written by Ilya Krukowski

Note: This article describes how this feature works in Lokalise Vantage. A similar feature is available in Lokalise Expert, but the interface and workflow may differ. If you are using Lokalise Expert, see: Automated import/export.

Content automations let you automatically import content from connected platforms into Lokalise Vantage and send translated content back on a schedule.

You can choose which content to include using filters supported by the integration, then configure an import schedule, an export schedule, or both. Export automations can also be limited to specific target languages and to content that meets the selected translation readiness criteria.

Content automations are configured in Project settings > Content automations.

Step 1: Open the content automation settings

Content automations are available for projects connected to a supported external content source. Before you start, make sure the project has an integration configured. See Lokalise Vantage integrations for the available options.

  1. Open your project.

  2. Go to Project settings > Content automations.

  3. Click Set up sync.

The setup panel opens on the right side of the screen.

Step 2: Choose the content to sync

In Choose content to sync, select the content that should be included in the automation.

The available filters depend on the connected integration and generally match the content selection options available when importing content from that integration. For example, you may be able to filter content by:

  • Content type

  • Tags

  • Status

  • Last updated

  • Created at

You can add or remove filters as needed.

Note: Content automations cannot cover overlapping sets of content. If the filters of a new automation overlap with an existing automation, Lokalise may prevent you from creating it. Adjust the filters so that each automation handles a separate set of content.

When supported by the integration, Lokalise also shows how many items match the selected filters. For example, Contentful may show the number of matching entries. This count is not available for every integration.

Step 3: Configure automated import

You need to configure at least one automated action: Automate import, Automate export, or both.

To automatically import matching content into Vantage, open Automate import and configure the schedule:

  1. Under Starts on, select the date when the automation should begin.

  2. Under Frequency, choose how often the import should run.

  3. Select the required time, days, or both, depending on the selected frequency.

For example, you can run imports every day, twice a day, on weekdays, or on selected days of the week. When a frequency supports multiple days, you can select several days in the same field.

A summary at the bottom of the section shows when the import will start and how often it will run.

Step 4: Configure automated export

To automatically send translated content back to the connected platform, open Automate export.

First, configure the export schedule in the same way as for automated import:

  1. Under Starts on, select the date when the automation should begin.

  2. Under Frequency, choose how often the export should run.

  3. Select the required time, days, or both, depending on the selected frequency.

Next, under Export content when, choose when content is ready to be exported:

  • All approved — export content only when every translation is approved by AI or a human reviewer.

  • All translated — export content when all segments have a translation, including translations with unresolved issues.

Finally, choose which target languages to export:

  • Enable All target languages to send translations in every target language.

  • Disable it to select specific target languages.

A summary at the bottom of the section shows when the export will start and how often it will run.

Step 5: Change the timezone (optional)

Import and export schedules use the project timezone by default. To use a different timezone:

  1. Click Change timezone in the top-right corner of the Automate import or Automate export section.

  2. Select the required timezone.

If both import and export are configured, the selected timezone is applied to both schedules.

Step 6: Preview and enable the automation

When you finish configuring the automation, click Preview automation. The preview shows a summary of your current settings, including:

  • The number of items matched by your filters, when this information is available.

  • The import schedule, if automated import is enabled.

  • The export schedule, if automated export is enabled.

  • The next scheduled actions and the timezone used for them.

Review the settings before enabling the automation. If you need to change anything, click the edit icon next to the relevant section to return to its settings.

When everything looks correct, click Enable automation.

Step 7: Manage content automations

After you enable an automation, it appears under Project settings > Content automations.

The list shows information such as:

  • Automation name

  • Status

  • Next scheduled run

  • Last run

  • Last run status

Click an automation to reopen its settings and make changes.

To manage an automation, click the More menu next to it. From there, you can pause or delete the automation. A paused automation can be resumed later.

To create another automation, click Add new automation. Lokalise shows a warning when your project is close to the content automation limit. Once the limit is reached, you cannot create additional automations until you remove an existing one or adjust your setup.

View automation activity

Automated imports and exports are also recorded in the project activity log. To view them, open Activity from the menu at the top of the project.

The Import / export activity log shows information about sync operations, including:

  • Whether the operation was an import or export.

  • When it ran.

  • Its status, such as Succeeded or Failed.

  • Additional details about the operation, when available.

This can be useful for checking whether a scheduled automation ran successfully and for troubleshooting failed imports or exports.
