This article covers a feature available only in Lokalise Vantage, not Lokalise Expert.
The SendGrid integration in Lokalise Vantage allows you to import email templates directly into a Vantage project for translation.
Instead of exporting and importing templates manually, you can connect your SendGrid account, select the email templates you want to localise, and translate them using your usual Vantage workflow.
Once imported, templates can be translated, reviewed, and managed just like other supported content sources. When you're ready, you can send the translated templates back to SendGrid with just a few clicks.
Supported SendGrid content
Lokalise Vantage currently supports translating SendGrid Dynamic Templates.
You can import one or more Dynamic Templates into a Vantage project, translate and review them, then send the translated templates back to SendGrid.
Before you begin
Create a Dynamic Template version
Before importing content into Lokalise Vantage, make sure each SendGrid Dynamic Template you want to translate contains at least one version. Templates without a version cannot be imported.
Create a SendGrid API key
To connect SendGrid to Lokalise Vantage, create a SendGrid API key with Template Engine: Full Access permissions.
To create an API key:
In SendGrid, go to Settings > API Keys.
Click Create API Key.
Enter a name for the key.
Choose Custom access, and under permissions, select Template Engine: Full Access.
Create the key and copy its value. You'll need it when connecting your SendGrid account to Lokalise Vantage.
Set up the SendGrid integration in Lokalise Vantage
Step 1: Create a Vantage project
Open your Lokalise Vantage project dashboard and click New project.
Step 2: Select SendGrid as the content source
When creating the project, select Connect to your tool as the content source.
Choose SendGrid from the list of available integrations, then click Continue.
Step 3: Connect your SendGrid account
Paste the SendGrid API key you created earlier.
Then select your SendGrid region (EU or Global) from the dropdown menu and click Continue.
Step 4: Provide project details
Enter a name for your project, then select the base language and one or more target languages.
When you're done, click Continue.
Step 5: Select content to translate
Choose the SendGrid Dynamic Templates you want to translate.
You can use the search box to find specific templates or filter the list by template name, status, or modification date. Select one or more templates, then click Continue.
Step 6: Add glossary terms
Optionally, add glossary terms that should be used when translating your SendGrid templates. For more details, see the Translation assets article.
When you're ready, click Continue.
Step 7: Choose your translation process
Choose the translation process that best matches your project needs. You can translate the content with AI only, or add human review for segments that may need extra attention after the automatic quality check. For more details, see the Lokalise Vantage projects article.
When you're done, click Start AI translation. Vantage will then import your content and start the translation process. HTML structure and formatting are preserved during translation.
If you add reviewers, they can later review and confirm translations in the Vantage editor before the content is sent back to SendGrid. For more information about working with Vantage editor and review tasks, see the Lokalise Vantage onboarding guide.
Step 8: Preview your translations in target languages
Once translation is complete, you can preview your SendGrid templates directly in the Vantage editor.
The editor includes an in-context preview, allowing you to see how your translated templates appear in each target language before sending them back to SendGrid.
For more information about the editor and preview features, see the Lokalise Vantage: Editor article.
Import additional content
After creating your project, you can import additional or updated SendGrid templates at any time.
In the project editor, click Import from SendGrid in the left sidebar.
The same content selection dialog will open, allowing you to search, filter, and select one or more Dynamic Templates to import.
When you've selected the templates you want to add, click Import.
If you re-import a template that has already been imported, Lokalise Vantage detects the changes automatically. Existing translations are reused where possible, while only new or modified content goes through the translation workflow again.
For more information about how updates are handled, see the Lokalise Vantage: Files article.
Send translations back to SendGrid
When your translations are ready, you can send them back to SendGrid from the project editor.
Step 1: Open the Send dialog
In the project Editor, click Send to SendGrid in the top menu.
Step 2: Select templates
Select one or more template versions you want to send back to SendGrid, then click Next.
Step 3: Select languages
Choose whether to send translations for all target languages or only specific languages.
Step 4: Send translations
Click Send to export the selected translations back to SendGrid.
Since SendGrid does not have a locale field for templates, Lokalise Vantage adds a locale postfix to the translated template name, for example [fr] or [de]. The original template is not modified.
When importing content from SendGrid, Vantage excludes templates with a locale postfix so translated templates are not imported back into the project as source content.
