Lokalise Vantage: Editor

Learn how to use the Lokalise Vantage Editor to review translations, edit segments, approve content, track progress, filter results, and manage languages.

This article explains how the editor works in Lokalise Vantage and how to use it to review, update, and approve translations.

The editor is the main workspace for translation and review in Vantage. It shows your source content, translated segments, project progress, and review tools in one place.

Open the editor

After you create a Vantage project and start translation, you are automatically redirected to the editor. You can also return to it later by opening the Vantage project and selecting the Editor tab.

The editor is where you:

  • view all content within the project (you might need to scroll to load all the segments)

  • review translated content

  • edit target text

  • approve segments

  • track progress

  • filter and search segments

  • work on assigned review tasks

  • utilize Pro AI to shorten or rephrase segments


Editor layout

The editor is split into two main parts:

  • Source — the original content in the project’s base language

  • Target — the translated content for the selected target language

Each row in the editor represents a segment (similar to translation keys in Lokalise Expert). The left side shows the source text, while the right side shows translations for selected target languages.


Review and edit translations

You can edit translated content directly in the Target column. This allows you to:

  • correct wording

  • improve phrasing

  • adjust tone

  • fix formatting issues within the segment

The source text is shown for reference, but it cannot be edited directly in the editor.

You cannot edit the source text directly in Vantage. To update it, upload a new version of the file with the same file name from the Files tab as explained in the Files article.

Approve segments

Each translated segment includes an approve action in the Target column. Approving a segment marks it as reviewed and accepted.

What happens after you approve content

As segments are reviewed and approved:

  • progress updates in the Statistics panel

  • manually approved content is saved to Translation memory

  • future translations reuse approved matches where applicable

Not all approved segments are automatically saved to translation memory. For example, AI-approved segments must be manually re-approved to be stored in TM. To learn more, check the Translation assets article.

Additional segment actions

Each segment includes a menu with additional actions that help you quickly adjust translations or manage edits.

Available actions include:

  • Rephrase translation — generates an alternative version of the translation using AI. Usually the AI suggests up to three alternative translations.

  • Shorten translation — produces a shorter version of the translation, useful when space is limited. Usually the AI suggests up to three alternative translations.

  • Use source text — copies the source text into the translation field. The label reflects the base language (for example, Use English text).

  • Copy text — copies the current translation to your clipboard.

  • Translation history — open translation history panel. Refer to the Translation history section to learn more.

  • Save changes and approve — saves your edits and marks the segment as approved.

  • Save changes, don’t approve — saves your edits without approving the segment.

  • Cancel changes — discards current changes made to the segment.

Apply changes to duplicate segments

If a segment appears multiple times in your project, you don’t need to update each instance manually.

After you approve a segment that has identical duplicates, a hint will appear below it indicating that matching segments exist elsewhere in the project. Click Review segments to open the Identical translations dialog.

In this dialog, you can:

  • apply and approve the changes segment by segment

  • apply and approve the changes to all matching segments at once

  • choose to ignore duplicates and close the dialog


Translation history

You can view previous versions of a translation directly from the editor. To open the history for a segment:

  1. Open the segment actions menu.

  2. Click Translation history.

Translation history is tied to the current source segment. If the source segment is replaced during file re-import, the history for that segment is lost.

The history panel shows previous translation versions for that segment. This helps you compare the current translation with earlier versions without leaving the editor.

For each previous version, you can:

  • Copy the translation text

  • Restore this version to replace the current translation with the selected previous version

Use translation history when you want to check how a translation changed during review, recover an earlier version, or compare edits before approving a segment.


Preview translated content

For certain file formats it's possible to preview the translated content right in the editor:

Interactive preview is available for: Google Docs, DOCX, HTML.

In the interactive preview you can, for example, locate specific segments easily:

You can switch between static and interactive preview modes using controls in the top menu. Here, you can also select the preview language:

Note: the static preview needs to be regenerated after making changes to translations. If it becomes outdated, a banner will appear prompting you to refresh it.

The static preview preserves layout and structure more accurately than the editor view, but uses a default system font instead of the original fonts.

Static preview is available for: DOCX, PPTX.

Click the "cancel" icon to close the preview.

Vantage remembers your settings, so that the next time you enter the editor, the preview will show up at the same place as you set it up.


Track progress

The top area of the editor provides project-level tools and status information. From there, you can monitor translation and review progress across the project. Click the Approved segments dropdown to open the Statistics panel.

The Statistics dropdown shows progress for each target language of the whole project, including:

  • percentage of approved segments

  • number of translated segments

  • processed word counts


Use filters to focus on specific content

The Filters menu helps you narrow down the segment list.

You can filter segments by criteria such as:

  • language

  • translation status

  • review status

  • task membership

  • quality issues

For example, you can show only segments that are:

  • untranslated

  • unreviewed

  • approved

  • part of a task

  • flagged with quality issues

This is especially useful when reviewing large documents or focusing on assigned work.


Search for text segments

You can use the search field at the top of the Editor to find specific text segments.

Search helps you quickly locate:

  • words or phrases in the source text

  • translated content in the target language

  • sections you want to review or update

This is useful when working with longer documents or verifying repeated terms.


Add target languages from the editor

You can add new target languages directly from the editor by clicking Add a language:

Once a new language is added, Vantage automatically starts translating the content into that language. If the project uses the AI + human review workflow, Vantage may also create a review task for the newly added language.

Target languages can be added, but they cannot be removed once added.
