Tags allow you to logically group translation keys, making it easier to filter them during editing, exporting, and creating tasks or orders.

Adding and removing tags

Managing tags on a per-key basis

To add or remove a tag from a single key, open your Lokalise project editor, find the key, and click the "tag" icon. To add a tag, enter a new name or choose one from your existing tags. To remove a tag, click the "cancel" icon next to its name.

Managing tags on multiple keys in bulk

You can also add or remove tags to/from multiple keys within a project. To achieve that, open your project editor and select multiple keys.

Choose the Tags: add/remove action from the bulk menu, enter one or more tag names, and click Add or Remove.

Tags technical limitations

  • Maximum character limit is 128 characters.

  • Tags are case-insensitive.

  • Whitespaces are trimmed.

  • There is no tag management available currently:

    • Colors are assigned to tags automatically

    • Tags disappear when no keys have that tag. To delete a tag, filter out the keys containing that tag, and use the Tags: add/remove bulk action to remove it.

  • No strict limit on the number of tags that can be assigned to a single key

Using tags

You can use tags in the following components:

Project editor

Use the Filter dropdown to view only items with specific tags.

Tasks

Control the scope of tasks by using tags.

Downloads

Select which keys should be included in the export bundle by adjusting the Include tags and Exclude tags options.

Orders

When ordering translations from our professional translators, use tags to narrow down the order scope:

Please note that the Filter by tags dropdown will only appear if your project contains tags.
