Note: This article describes how contributors work in Lokalise Vantage. Contributor management is also available in Lokalise Expert, but the interface, permissions, and workflow differ. If you are using Lokalise Expert, see Contributors.
Contributors are people who have access to a Lokalise Vantage project. You can add users from your Lokalise team, assign their role, and choose which languages they can work with.
In this article, you'll learn how to add and manage contributors in Vantage, configure their roles and language access, and understand how contributors relate to your Lokalise team and seats.
Contributors and team users
Lokalise Vantage uses the same team as Lokalise Expert. This means the same team users can work across both Expert and Vantage projects, depending on which projects they have access to.
A contributor is a team user who has access to a specific project. Being part of the team does not automatically give a user access to its projects — users must be added to each project separately.
Depending on their team role and project permissions, contributors may occupy an advanced seat. Advanced seats are limited by your team's quota, while standard seats for translators and reviewers are unlimited. A user occupies only one seat for the team, even if they work in multiple Expert or Vantage projects.
For more information about team roles and managing team users, see Teams and roles. To learn how advanced seats are counted and managed, see Team quotas.
Add contributors to a Vantage project
To manage contributors, open your Vantage project and select Contributors from the top menu.
This page shows all users who currently have access to the project.
The team owner is added to every project automatically and has full access. The owner cannot be removed from the project or have their permissions restricted.
Add team users
To add contributors:
Click Add contributor.
Select one or more users from your current team.
Choose the target languages they can edit. The project base language is always visible.
Select a role for the contributors.
Click Add contributors.
Vantage provides the following predefined roles:
Role | Seat type | Description |
Manager | Advanced | Has full access to the project, including managing project settings and contributors. |
Content creator | Advanced | Works with project content and languages and can manage content-related project resources. |
Developer | Advanced | Works with project content and technical operations, such as importing and exporting content. |
Translator | Standard | Can view project content and edit translations for their assigned target languages. |
Reviewer | Standard | Can edit translations for their assigned languages and review translated content. |
Manager, Content creator, and Developer roles use an advanced seat. Translator and Reviewer use a standard seat, as long as the user's team role or permissions in another project do not already require an advanced seat.
Import contributors from another project
Instead of selecting contributors manually, you can copy the contributor setup from another project in the same team.
In the Add contributor dialog:
Switch to Import from another project.
Select a project from the dropdown. You can select either a Vantage or Lokalise Expert project.
Click Add project contributors.
Vantage adds the contributors from the selected project together with their roles, permissions, and language access.
If a contributor already exists in the current project, their existing permissions and language access are not changed. Contributors whose assigned languages are not available in the current project may not be imported.
This can be useful when the same group of people works across multiple projects.
Manage existing contributors
From the Contributors page, you can change language access, update permissions, or remove contributors from the project.
Change language access
To change which target languages a contributor can edit, click the pencil icon next to their assigned languages and select the languages you want to give them access to.
The team owner's language access cannot be changed because the owner always has full access to the project.
Edit permissions
To change a contributor's role or permissions:
Click the three dots next to the contributor.
Select Edit permissions.
Choose one of the predefined roles, or configure permissions individually.
Save your changes.
Vantage provides the following individual permissions:
Project
Manage contributors — add, edit, and remove project contributors.
Manage project settings — update project settings.
Manage languages — add and manage project languages.
Manage tasks — create and manage project tasks.
Review
Review — review translations.
Content transfer
Upload files — upload content to the project.
Download files — download content from the project.
Selecting a predefined role automatically applies the permissions associated with that role. You can also customize the permissions individually when you need more specific access; in this case the role will be set to Custom.
Remove a contributor
To remove a contributor from the project:
Click the three dots next to the contributor.
Select Remove contributor.
Removing a contributor from a Vantage project removes their access to that project only. It does not remove them from the Lokalise team or from other Expert or Vantage projects they have access to.
The team owner cannot be removed from the project.
